Being able to take the train and step right onto the hiking trail is truly an experience in itself. The Kinnekulle Railway, which you travel on, was also voted Sweden's most beautiful train route a few years ago. After disembarking at Trolmen station, you cross the railway and begin the trail's first stage eastward, where you soon reach Trolmen's harbor and a beautiful stretch along Lake Vänern and the picturesque Råbäcks Sjöskog, one of the many nature reserves you will pass along the way.

You then arrive at the idyllic Råbäcks harbour. Here, besides a beautiful small harbor and picnic area, there is also a stonemasonry from the late 1800s. The stonemasonry is partially still active for craftsmanship but primarily functions as a workplace museum. The trail continues upward along the old railway embankment where the lime was transported and up towards the old limestone quarry. After a wooded area with beautiful limestone formations in Gröne Skog (another nature reseve), you reach one of the mountain's most famous natural areas, ”Munkängarna”. Wild garlic is what primarily made it famous, but the beautiful old deciduous tree park is worth seeing all year round. Feel free to walk down the stone staircase (a short detour to the left) and enjoy the park from the lower part for a while. If you walk down the stairs, it is a detour from the trail, which otherwise goes along the upper edge of the reserve. Next, just a stone's throw away, you reach the next attraction, ”the large quarry”, which is a magnificent sight with 40-meter-high limestone walls down to the lake. Beautiful views and several picnic tables are available here. The journey then continues, and via an impressive avenue, you reach the beautiful  Hellekis manor. Here you find  a garden café with both food and snacks, as well as a unique garden well worth a visit. Finally, you descend the hill to the shore of Lake Vänern and can stop and stay overnight at Kinnekulle Campsite. Getting into the community of Hällekis is a detour from the trail of 2.6 kilometers, which is well signposted. This stage is a bit shorter as it is quite hilly and contains many attractions well worth a stop.

Start and finish:

Kinnekulle hiking trail goes around the whole mountain. This means that you can start your hiking trip on many different places depending on how you travel to Kinnekulle and how you wish to stay during your hike.  A tip is to use this map tool and plan your trip after your own requests. If you want help, dont hesitate to contact the Tourist office who are happy to assist.
